A downloadable game for Windows

One of my classes during year 3 at UWS was Game Engine 2, as part of my assessment for this class I was asked to create a Game Design Document to which I would then build a game based on it.

As I am 40 years old, I have a fondness for retro style games and was around for the introduction of FPS games in the early 90s. I decided to create a Doom style game but make it accessible to younger players, with this in mind I removed most of the violent content and replaced it with mechanics that would fit with the intended age range, weapons were replaced with custom toy replicas firing their toy equivalent such as bubbles and jets of water, for the melee weapon, I chose to make a foam baseball bat.

Enemies were no longer demons and hell-spawn, instead they were colourful, happy characters with large limbs and fun sounds for the melee enemies and similarly styled wizards firing bolts of elemental magic from their staves for the ranged ones.

The mechanics of the game would stay largely the same, you could make your way through the levels, fighting the enemy characters on your way to the end point, or in most cases, you could avoid confrontation completely.

While I was able to create a game that would fulfil all the criteria of the assessment, I was in the process of moving house during development which restricted the amount of time I had to work on it due to a loss of internet access for almost 3 weeks and my time being split between this project and others I was working on for other classes. As a result I was only able to complete one full level of the game with the Start, Pause and Game Over elements also included.

I do intend to return to the game to continue development as I have more ideas I want to include such as more weapons, mechanics such as teleportation, a system I had already completed but was unable to include due to my time limit, boss fights and more story content.
